Observational
and Expressive Drawing with guest artist Meredith Essex:
Meredith Essex is an exhibiting artist and has shown her art throughout the Northwest for the past 20 years. She has continued to focus on and refine drawings and paintings inspired by landscapes throughout this region for over 15 years. Meredith has taught art in a broad spectrum of settings and continues to mentor teachers and students in visual art making ranging from sculpture to drawing, painting and printmaking. She is a direct and gentle teacher who has guided the creative process of artists in all stages of artistic development. Meredith has a Bachelor of Arts in Studio and Art History, and has received numerous grants, awards and scholarships based on her achievements as artist and educator. Session One: Extended studio time studying and drawing diverse subject matter with emphasis on shape, value and texture in composition. Media will include graphite pencils, vine/compressed charcoal, and ink applied with bamboo pens or brushes.
Session Two: Expansion of observational drawing skills into expressive approaches to line, color and shape with a special focus on landscape and nature forms. Also, technical emphasis on dry colored media: chalks, oil pastels, and colored pencils. Small class sizes ensure personal instruction at any ability level. Beginners are welcome! Bring a sack lunch to enjoy in the garden by the koi pond. Beverages will be provided. We will provide basic materials, but would like students to bring a large (9x12 or bigger) sketchbook to work in, and a set of soft chalk pastels, oil pastels or Prismacolor colored pencils for the second session. A drawing board may also be helpful for outdoor work. Contact us for more information on future class dates. |
